The different Types of conservatory base
There are several types of conservatory bases which one is best only you can decide. They all have their advantages but usually your decision is based on three deciding factors:
1. Availability of a builder or are you going to build your own base
2. Price
3. Access to the site
1. Dwarf Wall Conservatory
Is a traditional base structure for the conservatory. With a brick outer wall to match the house and an inner cavity wall of breeze blocks these are usually 525mm high but can vary depending on what you are trying to achieve. For instance if you are going to plumb a radiator on to the wall inside the conservatory as most radiators fit nicely on to a 600mm wall this may be your preferred height. At Diy conservatory quote you decide the height and we will design your conservatory to suit. All at no extra cost.
Once you have placed your 10% deposit we release all of your plans from which you can start getting prices from local builders. If you talk to our design team they also have a report that they can supply you telling you the number of bricks as a guide for your project this may help you get the best price from the builder as he is not guessing materials.
2. Full Height conservatory Base
Not much to say about the full height conservatory base it is a traditional concrete base structure with a 225mm brick skirt and concrete finish which your conservatory will bolt on to. Our cills will sit directly onto the inside edge of the outside brick and then the framework will slide together with our Konnect technology. This makes this style of conservatory the fastest type to erect and if you are paying fitters to do this for you your reduction in price needs to reflect our pre-glazed joining system. A decent team will have the main conservatory up in a morning with this system.
3. Conservatory Pre-fabricated Base or Steel base Conservatory
If you could do without all the mess and hassle of unreliable builders you have the Diy steel base option. This consists of a heavy duty steel frame base with modular walls with the choice of slip bricks to match your property. This revolutionary conservatory steel base system takes away the worry of your base not fitting the conservatory that you purchased. This is a quick & easy solution to any problems you may come across i.e. man holes, underground drainage, uneven or sloping ground. The durabase is designed to get around all these issues on site. This is also available for the full height design. This type of base is excellent where you need to carry the base through the house such as in a terraced house or you do not have the space for a skip and don’t want to dig out foundations just the small 400mm x 400mm pads.
4. Conservatory for an existing Base or I want to replace my old conservatory can you help ?
The answer is yes. This is a conservatory base already on site from an existing conservatory you are replacing or your builder has built your base prior to you ordering your conservatory with DiyConservatoryQuote. This is the beauty of Diy bespoke conservatories; we will make the conservatory exactly to the existing base already built on site. All we require is a rough sketch of the existing base and door way sizes and we will design your brand new conservatory to sit straight on top of your existing walls. We will supply you with check dimensions so you can take our redrawn plans and go over your design just to make sure that you are happy with your original measurements.
5. Full height wall Conservatory or Existing wall Conservatory Base
This is a full height wall structure either existing as part of your property which would require a box gutter section integral with the conservatory, or sometimes built up to 2100mm for the conservatory roof to sit on. This option is used for obscure/privacy for neighbours overlooking the conservatory.
6. ¾ wall conservatory
This is a 1700mm wall designed for 400mm fanlights to sit in between the conservatory roof and wall structure. This option is usually used for privacy from a neighbour but still allowing light into the conservatory. It can also be used for allowing yourself to put up pictures, TVs, radiators etc..

GU24 Base Bulbs: What Are They and Why Are They So Popular?
Conceived in 2004, the GU24 base bulb provides consumers with another choice for energy resourceful, cost-effective, user-friendly lighting. With EPA approval and a design that corrects past issues with high efficiency lamp bases, GU24 base bulbs are becoming the new standard.
What are GU24 base bulbs?
Also referred to as GU24 lamps, GU24 base bulbs were created to replace those other CFL bulbs: the oft-confusing, pin-base bulb. The pin-base design used unattached ballasts (“electrical devices for starting and controlling fluorescent and discharge lamps”) and required varying socket designs for nearly every wattage type. Replacing the pin-based bulb was a hassle that scared away consumers and inadvertently made energy efficiency efforts seem like a chore.
Designed with the base attached, GU24 lamps have two pins sticking out of the base instead of the usual spiral screw seen in common bulbs. Attaching and replacing GU24 lamps require that the pins enter into the lighting fixture (commonly referred to as a “lamp”, not to be confused with the lamp/bulb we are discussing now), twist, and then connect into place.
Why Are GU24 Lamps So Popular?
Popularity of GU24 lamps stem from their likeness to standard, screw-based light bulbs: they are easy to attach, replace, and are available in different stores.
Unlike with pin-based bulbs, replacement of GU24 base bulbs is not limited by:
Who manufactured the lamp The wattage (pin-base bulbs can only be replaced with the same wattage unless the matching ballast is also purchased) Where the lamps are sold
One of the most notable reasons that GU24 lamps are gaining in popularity is because the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) now qualifies every lamp using the GU24 base as ENERGY STAR. ENERGY STAR products have the “stamp of approval” in energy efficiency standards. This specification spurred manufacturers to produce lamps that meet the qualification. Based on 2007 data, nearly 2000 GU24 base fixtures are ENERGY STAR approved. To match the need of more “green” focused consumers, there’s little doubt that this number will continue to rise.

Acids And Bases ? What Are They?
Acids and bases are the terminologies that are used by chemists to classify chemicals based on their pH levels. An acid is any material that submit a hydrogen ion in solution. Conversely, a base is any matter that generates a hydroxide ion in solution. However, there are many different theories by different theorists defining acids and bases. Some of them are outlined below:
In the seventeenth century, Robert Boyle first classified matter as either acids or bases. He used the following characteristics to determine whether a material is acid or base.
Acids Bases
Taste sour Feel slippery
Corrosive to metals Taste bitter
Change litmus red Change litmus blue
Become less acidic when mixed with Become less basic when mixed with acids
bases
According to Svante Arrhenius:
Acids produce H ions in aqueous solutions
Bases produce OH ions in aqueous solutions
According to Johannes Nicolaus Bronsted & Thomas Martin Lowry:
Acids are proton contributors
Bases are proton receptors
According to Newton Lewis:
Acids are electron pair receptors
Bases are electron pair donors
Considering the various theories, what exactly are acids?
1. The word acid comes from the Latin acere which means sour. Acids taste sour.
2. They change litmus from blue to red.
3. They react with bases to form salts and water
4. Upon reaction with an active metal such as zinc and aluminum, they develop hydrogen gas.
5. They are electrolytes
6. They are corrosive (burns your skin)
7. Acids have a pH less than 7
8. They react with carbonates to form carbon dioxide
What exactly are bases?
1. They taste bitter.
2. They are soapy or slippery
3. Bases don’t change the colour of litmus but they can turn acidified (red) litmus to blue.
4. Like acids, they are electrolytes
5. They react with acids to form salts and water.
6. They are also corrosive
7. Has pH of more than 7
Many acids and bases are very well-known common as we use them in our daily lives. Many industries incorporate the use of acids and bases in their processes to produce many consumer goods.
Examples of acids are:
1. Citric acid – this is found in many fruits and vegetables especially citrus fruits like lemons and oranges.
2. Ascorbic acid or Vitamin C which is found in certain fruits
3. Vinegar (acetic acid)
4. Carbonic acid – used in the manufacture of soft drinks
5. Lactic acid that is found in buttermilk.
6. Hydrochloric acid in gastric juices
7. Sulphuric acid
8. Uric acid found in urine
9. Tannic acid in teas and wines
10. Tartaric acid found in grapes
Examples of bases are:
1. Detergents and cleaning agents
2. Soap
3. Lye
4. Household ammonia
5. Sodium hydroxide (caustic soda)
6. Calcium hydroxide (limewater)
7. Magnesium hydroxide or milk of magnesia
8. Bleaches
9. Toothpaste

Swivel Chair Bases – The Difference Between Manual And Gas Type
Swivel chairs are common in almost any office or business establishment for the comfort and flexibility it brings to the user. Apart from its sturdiness and ergonomic properties, a swivel chair allows workers to perform daily tasks and functions in more smoothly and comfortably. A swivel chair can make a 360-degree turn and is equipped with casters to allow movement.
Apparently, swivel chair bases are the core of these revolutionary chairs. They support the weight of the person sitting on the chair. The base is fitted with mechanisms that allow the user to adjust the chair’s depth and height, as well as propel the chair from one point to another and turn it around whenever needed. It is thus composed of several parts, which can be replaced in the unfortunate event that they get broken. At times, you would need to replace the entire base.
There are two basic types of swivel chair bases: the manual and the gas type. Depending on the type of your chair, manufacturers offer replacement parts for both types. Manual swivel chair bases have certain limitations compared to the more modern gas type bases. It provides stability but comes with a fixed height, leaving no room for adjustment. It merely serves to support.
On the other hand, gas type swivel chair bases are more flexible and are mad of more complex mechanisms. Underneath the seat, a level can be adjusted to lower or heighten the seat to fit the user’s height. When pressed, this lever releases air from a specially designed chamber, pushing up the chair freely. Releasing the lever while putting your weight on the chair pushes it down until you the chair is lowered to your desired depth.
Both gas and manual swivel chair bases are available in different shapes, dimensions, styles, and material used. They are fitted with varying numbers of legs, to which casters may or may not be attached. The more legs the base of a swivel chair has, the easier it would be to maneuver it. Five-legged swivel chair bases are a popular choice among buyers of office chair replacement parts. You can also opt for circular bases that are bolted to the floor surface. This type of swivel chair bases is made for heavy-duty load.
Aluminum cast and wood are two common materials used for swivel chair bases. Bases also come fitted with casters. With so many options available today, a broken chair base or any part of the base is no longer a problem. Online, you will see a wide range of swivel chair bases for different kinds of office chairs made by a huge variety of manufacturers. When choosing the a replacement base for your chair, make sure it is suitable for the kind of chair you are repairing.
